What does Kōkiri Lab remember?

This page is for students, whānau, and schools. It explains what happens to inquiry work on this platform in everyday language.

Two kinds of data

Kōkiri Lab can be used as a learning tool at school. Some information is stored because it helps teaching and learning. Separate PhD research use only happens if a separate consent process is completed.

  • Programme data (teaching and learning): your inquiry work and progress so you and your teacher can continue learning across lessons.
  • PhD research data: only used when the correct consent process has been followed separately.

What we record

Kōkiri Lab records the evidence you add, the claims you write, the changes you make to your work, the badges you earn, and the pages you complete as part of your investigation.

What we do not do

  • We do not assign report-card style results from this platform.
  • We do not line you up against classmates as a league table.
  • We do not show your private work to everyone.
  • We do not use your information for PhD research unless the correct consent process has been followed separately.

Who can see your work

Your teacher can see your investigation progress to help support you.

Researchers can only access information if you and your whānau have completed the correct consent process. Kōkiri Lab does not sell your data.

FAQ

Can I use Kōkiri Lab if I do not join the research?

Yes. If your school is using Kōkiri Lab for learning, you can still use it as part of class activities. Research participation is a separate choice.

What does my teacher see?

Your teacher can see your investigation pages and progress so they can support you: what evidence you added, what claim you wrote, and what you changed over time.

What does the researcher see?

Researchers only access information if the correct consent process has been completed. The details depend on the approved study plan and information sheet for your school.

What is anonymised?

When research export is used, it should be set up to avoid sharing unnecessary identifying information. Exact anonymisation steps are part of the approved research process.

Can I ask questions or withdraw from research?

Yes. The consent information provided by your school or the research team explains who to contact and what withdrawal means in practice.

Does the platform grade or rank me?

No. Kōkiri Lab does not produce report-card results or rankings. Badges are meant to show moments of inquiry capability evidence — not a mark.

Note: some wording here may require ethics/supervisor review before being treated as participant-facing research documentation.
