Body kits

3D-printed and laser-cut parts that attach to LEGO Technic geometry: shells, bumpers, a phone cradle, sensor shrouds and more.

The OpenSCAD Technic module isn't written yet.

The plan is a Kōkiri "Technic grid" OpenSCAD module so a student sets a size in holes and gets correct hole spacing automatically. OpenSCAD itself (GPL) is never added to this repo — it would run as a separate design tool, the same way LeoCAD and LPub3D (also GPL, used to author the Build Library's own instructions) stay outside this codebase.

Technic dimensions

Always print a calibration strip first (holes from 4.7 to 5.1 mm in 0.1 mm steps). Every school printer is different.

DimensionTypical valueNote
Hole spacing (pitch)8 mmSame in every direction
Pin hole diameterabout 4.8 mmPrint at 4.9 to 5.0 mm on FDM printers; test first
Beam thicknessabout 7.2 mmFriction pins grip best through a part this thick
Axle crossabout 4.8 mm across, arms about 1.8 mmPrint slightly oversize

Downloadable parameters

Once the Technic grid module exists, each body kit part's hole count and thickness will download as a small parameters file here. That file format doesn't exist yet either — this page is the honest placeholder for it, not a working download.

Ideas

Shells and faces, bumpers, a phone cradle, sensor shrouds, name plates (vinyl cut), cable guides, a tray, a light shield for the colour sensor.
